QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
A little less guesswork.
Useful starting points for home, vehicle, business and household garage questions.
What should I have ready when I call?
The town and street, the door or vehicle involved, and a simple description of what changed. For a car, include the year, make and model. You can also say whether a working spare exists.
Does a new house key mean a new lock?
Not necessarily. Rekeying changes which key works in a compatible lock. Worn, damaged or unsuitable hardware may need another approach. Explain whether the door already closes and locks normally.
Can you give me a price or arrival time here?
The work, location and current availability need to be discussed first. Call to confirm the expected scope, pricing and scheduling before arranging a visit.
What if I am near a park or trail?
Use the actual parking area, street or entrance where you are waiting. Blue Hills covers more than one town, and a trail destination is not necessarily an accessible vehicle location.
Who can authorize work on a shared entrance?
Start with the building manager, owner or other person responsible for that door. Being able to enter a building does not necessarily mean you can arrange changes to its common locks.
What details matter for a replacement car key?
Give the year, make and model, the type of key you had and whether another key still works. Vehicle compatibility and the documentation needed should be checked before you arrange the job.
Is a garage-door problem the same as a lock problem?
A moving overhead door, an opener and a separate pedestrian-door lock are different systems. Explain which part is affected. Do not force or repeatedly operate a door that hangs unevenly or seems unstable.
Can several house doors use one key?
It depends on the existing lock types and their condition. List the doors you want to include, and mention any common building doors that are controlled separately. Compatibility needs to be checked.
